Preparation The instructions contained in the manual are detailed and extensive, and require a reasonable level of DIY skills to complete. It is recommended that you completely read the manual before starting work on your window. If you are in any doubt about your ability to understand and follow the instructions or your ability to carry out any of the tasks described you should not start this project. Before you start work on your sash window it is important to ensure that you have the following tools:

• Dust sheets • Claw hammer • Blunt chisel, 25mm+ is preferable • Screwdrivers • Stanley knife • Pincers/Pliers • Nail punch • Plane • Scraper • Mouse (Used to re-thread new sash cord) • Small block of softwood (say 150mm of 50mm x 25mm) • Timber batten 50mm x 25mm longer than the width of the sashes • Router • Workmate Bench or similar • Mitre Saw or Mitre Cutting Block • Mastic gun • Bathroom scales • White chalk

Clear a space around the window to be worked on giving you sufficient room to remove the sashes. Spread out your dust-sheets to protect the floor area and any furniture. Make sure that nobody is outside, below the window. You should allow at least 3 hours to complete the overhaul and draught sealing of your window. If you intend to decorate the window with the sashes removed, make sure that you check the drying time of the paint you are using and add this to the time required. (It maybe necessary to board up your window whilst you allow the paint to dry).
